Healthy Food Healthy Balance: Nutrition Unit

Food Group Pyramid Game
There are 5 food groups and the oils,fats,and sweets group in the food pyramid. Each group has arecommended amount that should be eaten daily.
-Oils: 3-5 tsps.
-Milk: 2-3 cups
-Meat& Beans: 4-6 ounces
-Vegetables: 1.5-3 cups
-Fruits: 1.5-2 cups
-Grains: 5-7 ounces
How to play:
Divide the class into equal teams depending on the size of the class. Each team has a hula hoop at the other end of the gym. Food cards are located in the hula hoop. Also, each team has a food pyramid guide placed on the floor beside them. The guide is used to determine the recommended daily servings from each group. On the teacher's signal "GO" a person from each group runs to get a food card from their hula hoop. Once they return to the group, the card is placed in the appropriate food group. Students take turns running to get food cards and placing them in the correct food group. When all of the food groups have the daily recommended amount of food, the team sits down. This activity should last 5-7 minutes.
