Musical Food Group is one game students have played during the Nutrition Unit. The object of the game is to be able to recognize and learn which foods belong with each food group. For example, a hot dog bun belongs to the grain group, an apple belongs to the fruit group, and a peanut belongs to the meat and beans group.
How to play:
When the music begins students start performing a locomotor skill around the cones. When the music stops the students stand by the food group closest to them. The teacher then picks a card from the deck of food cards. If the teacher picks the carrot card, the students at the vegetable cone get to pick an exercise to do for carrots. The teacher then instructs the students of the nutritional facts about carrots. For example, carrots are high in carbohydrates, low in fat, and low in protein. Carbohydartes contain many vitamins and minerals to keep the body strong and healthy. One carrot contains 26 calories, which is enough to do 2 repetitions of whatever exercise the students select. It is suggested that students perform one repetition for every 10 calories contained on the selected food card. The game should last until all food groups are represented equality.
Here are some pictures of students playing the game.
