On Jan. 18, 2011 school began with a Bluegrass Assembly. During the assembly the band played Bill Monroe songs. Bill Monroe was the founder of Bluegrass Music. Bill Monroe grew up in a small town just outside of Owensboro, called Rosine. A variety of instruments were played during the assembly: banjo, guitar, fiddle, and mandolin. Also, some students and teachers participated in a square dance called "The Virgina Reel".
